Movement Starts With Stamina

Your aim is not the only thing that matters in Deadlock. Yes, you might secure that elimination with your aim, but it is actually your movement that decides whether you make it long enough to the point of getting that elimination. Now, in regular shooting games, all you have to care about is moving with your “WASD”. But that is not how Deadlock works. This MOBA by Valve utilizes a momentum/physics based movement mechanic, which is one of the signature features of the Source Engine. And the first step towards mastering this movement mechanic is having sufficient knowledge about how stamina works in Deadlock.

Every aspect of your movement in Deadlock revolves around your Stamina. Whether it is a basic dash or a double jump. You won’t be able to do much without enough stamina.

Reading the Stamina Bar

So how do you check how much stamina you have? Just do a dash, and you will see white pips below your crosshair. The more bars you have, the more you will be able to perform complex movement mechanics. Just make sure that you are safe before your stamina bar depletes entirely. Otherwise, you are most likely done for. Experienced players make sure that they always keep at least one stamina bar intact, in case they need to Dash out of a situation quickly.

Always Keep a Bar in Reserve

High-level players always keep at least one bar for an emergency dash.

Why Bad Stamina Usage Loses Fights

I have seen plenty of situations where the players have used up all of their stamina just to get into a fight, only to find out that they have no stamina left when they are at the brink of losing the fight and it is time to get out. Getting eliminated due to lack of stamina is one of the main causes for “Feeding” in Deadlock (I will talk about feeding in a separate article). You can have the best build in the entire lobby of 12 players. But if you are not able to get out of fights at the right time, then the chances of you throwing the game is pretty high.

Conclusion

In conclusion, movement is one of the core mechanics of Deadlock, and Stamina dictates the majority of it. If you want to master the game and climb ranks fast, then try to perfect your movement as much as you can. You would be surprised to see how much of an edge you are getting over players who rely solely on aim.
